Research Description

My main research interests are centered around ecological and anthropogenic pressures that influence the distribution and evolutionary history of faunal taxa. Previously, in the field of palaeogenomics, these questions have been approached primarily by analysing remains (often bones and teeth) from individual specimens. With the rapid improvement in methods (both molecular and computational) in analysing ancient DNA from sediments, it is possible to understand more nuances of ecological turnovers that may tell a more complete story of loss of faunal biodiversity. My PhD research will utilise ancient DNA from both lake sediment cores and animal remains to assess the anthropogenic impacts to faunal biodiversity during the late Pleistocene to mid-Holocene in Greenland, southern Sweden, and the Balearic islands of Spain.
