Research Description

I am interested in understanding and investigating population dynamics over time using different genomic methods. My research interest focuses on the evolutionary and ecological processes that shape wildlife populations, with particular emphasis on island and other isolated populations. At CPG, my PhD includes structural variant detection and haplotype-based inference methods to examine changes in genomic variation in the Wrangel Island mammoth population to better understand its evolution and population dynamics. By comparing genomes through time, including from mainland ancestors, I aim to help in identifying how a severe bottleneck, population recovery and ensuing prolonged isolation, contributed to the extinction of the last woolly mammoths.
