As a Postdoc in Tom van der Valk’s lab at CPG, I will use long-read DNA sequence data to construct a brown bear pangenome, i.e., a reference genome that incorporates genomic variation from multiple individuals. Using this novel pangenome together with publicly available brown bear DNA data, I will study population dynamics of brown bears, specifically focusing on structural variants and their implications in adaptive evolution and conservation status.
