My research interests focus on the use of ancient DNA as a tool to study of large-scale human events, such as colonisations, migrations, domestications and adaptations. All of these can be the results of a response to climate change or the introduction of diseases, all of which can be studied using ancient DNA from human/animal remains, or sediment samples.

My current project "Pioneers of northern Scandinavia" aims to identify how and when the pioneering humans colonized northern Scandinavia, through a palaeogenomic approach on lake sediments. More specifically, the project will identify the chronology and origins of the first humans in northern Scandinavia, and recreate the past environments that these first humans experienced. With the overarching aim to explain and understand the pioneer settlements and their adaptive strategies otherwise not identifiable.
